All Institute members are required to identify and develop a parent led project that addresses an issue or policy in the school to improve the education experience for children. These projects will be implemented in January and continue until completion of the program. Projects must:
- Address a policy and/or practice;
- Improve/Establish/Create a program;
- Support parent engagement in the school environment;
- Improve social and emotional well-being;
- Better engage parents as partners; and
- Result in parents serving on school committees and teams.
There will be routine check-ins scheduled to ensure that progress is being made toward your goal/outcome.
PROSPECTIVE MEMBER CONTRACT
The Leadership Institute convenes one Saturday each month for 6 consecutive months. The sessions focus on developing the community leadership capacity of individuals. The training emphasizes an interactive and facilitative style rather than lectures. It draws on the knowledge, skills and experiences of those in the room, augmented by the lesson in the curriculum. Each prospective member must acknowledge the following membership responsibilities:
- I agree to accept and complete the training required by the PLI including the time commitments.
- I agree to attend 5 out of 6 complete sessions.
- I understand that I will be terminated from the program for not meeting the attendance.
- I agree to be on time for each session.
- I agree to complete the reading assignments as required.
- I agree to complete an approved Parent-led Project that is designed to improve the education experience for children.
- I understand that I will be terminated from the program for failure to complete the community service requirement.
- I agree to, except for emergency, give the Institute staff at least 48-hours notice of my absence.
- I understand that I will be terminated from the program for committing fraud upon the Institute.
- I give One Voice permission to use photographs and video images of me for purposes of promotion and training.
