Governor Tate Reeves’ budget recommendation for FY 2023 outlines a projected $8 billion in total State Support Funds for appropriations. This includes a recommended increase of $555 million in General Funds from FY 2022 appropriations and a recommended increase of $925 million in State Support Special Funds from FY 20222 appropriations.
In his budget recommendation, the Governor touts the state’s better than anticipated economic performance to highlight his top policy priorities, which include:
- Increasing Skills Training;
- Fighting Back Against Critical Race Theory;
- Investing in Infrastructure;
- Eliminating the Income Tax;
- Improving Education and Raising Teacher Pay;
- Recruiting and Empowering Police Officers; and
- Ensuring Election Integrity.
The Governor’s budget recommendation is one of many steps in Mississippi’s budget appropriations process. Next, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee, whose recommendation is used as the starting point for the appropriations debate during the upcoming Legislative Session, will submit its budget recommendation to the Mississippi Legislature by December 15th.
