About Education
One Voice anchors its education reform work in efforts to dismantle attacks on public schools through privatization, school choice, and consolidation efforts. One Voice plans to lead the parent engagement component for Mississippi public schools. This is an opportunity for parents, education leaders, and other community stakeholders to demonstrate the power of the community coming together to build the progressive, nurturing centers that our children deserve.
Programs
One Voice works with a coalition of parents, students, educators, policy makers, and organizations who have joined to derail the school-to-prison pipeline in Mississippi through training, policy advocacy at the local and state levels, and technical assistance to families and schools.
The coalition attacks student “push out” by providing direct technical assistance to families advocating on behalf of students who have been arrested, suspended, or expelled from school. One Voice and its partners continue to work with the Department of Justice to review school districts with documented instances of racial disparities when it comes to the distribution of punishment for the same or similar offenses.
